The City of Fayetteville is currently recruiting for a Transit Dispatcher to schedule and coordinate vehicles and passenger trips; to dispatch vehicles; to provide information to the public and respond to customer questions and complaints; to monitor and respond to calls, including two-way radios and mobile phones; to verify and monitor staff locations; to record service calls; to prepare, prioritize and relay transportation requests, including emergency situations; to participate in a variety of administrative and clerical duties related to assigned area of work; and to perform technical tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Assign, and coordinate the work of bus operators responsible for providing mass transit services within the Transit Department.
  2. Prepare, schedule and assign daily work duties and routes; prepare block sheets, run boards, status reports and call lists.
  3. Operate a two-way radio in support of dispatching duties; ensure routes are serviced in a timely fashion and on schedule; assist bus operators during breakdowns including securing replacement equipment and staff; coordinate major equipment and vehicle repairs with fleet maintenance staff.
  4. Maintain employee time sheets, vehicle allocation and run assignments.
  5. Act as receptionist; answer and screen telephone calls; provide information to the general public; respond to sensitive inquiries and complaints.
  6. Provide ticket sales and information for walk-in customers.
  7. Provide public transportation and para-transit dispatching and routing services to seniors, disabled individuals and the general public; dispatch fixed-route and para-transit vehicles as appropriate.
  8. Assist route supervisor in filling operator shift assignments.
  9. Provide information to law enforcement concerning Transit accidents, incidents and/or injuries and public safety.
  10. Verify and load the cash tray for daily business which includes transporting monies to the appropriate area.

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience:
Two years of increasingly responsible experience in dispatch, transit operations, and/or customer service.

Training:
Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.

LICENSING & CERTIFICATIONS

Required:
Possession of an appropriate valid driver's license and ability to maintain insurability.

Preferred:
A valid North Carolina, Class B Commercial Driver's License with Passenger and Airbrake endorsements.

From the time of closing the hiring process is anticipated to last4 weeks. The process will consist of a panel interview andskills testing which may include, but not limited to: Outlook, Proofreading, Spelling, Microsoft Word and Excel, with the selected candidate being subject to a pre-employment drug screen, background and driving history check.

The City of Fayetteville offers a comprehensive benefit package for part-time employees to include the accrual of vacation, sick, and holiday time at a reduced rate.

Employer Paid Leave

Paid Vacation:

Employees earn vacation leave beginning the first day of employment, however, they are not eligible to take leave for 6 months. Leave accruals are based upon the number of years of service and the number of hours an employee is scheduled to work.

Paid Holidays:

The City of Fayetteville observes 11 paid holidays per calendar year. The approved holidays are New Year?s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veteran?s Day, 2 days at Thanksgiving and 2 days at Christmas.

Sick / Funeral Leave:

Regular employees earn sick leave in proportion to the number of hours they are scheduled to work per week. Sick leave accruals begin the first day of employment. Sick leave can also be taken for deaths in your extended family. Sick leave hours accumulate without limits and may be used toward credible service upon retirement from the NC Local Government Retirement System.

Deferred Compensation Plans:

The City offers two supplemental retirement savings programs. These programs offer employees an opportunity to save a portion of their salary on a tax-deferred basis. The programs offered are 401(k) Supplemental Retirement Income Plan and the ICMA 457 Plan.

Pay Periods/Direct Deposit:

City employees are paid bi-weekly, every other Friday. As an added convenience and safety measure, the City requires all new employees to sign up for direct deposit of their payroll checks.

Employee Assistance Program:

The EAP is available at no cost to all employees and their household members. The EAP provides confidential guidance on legal, financial and personal issues that could affect your health, relationships and job performance.
