LOCATION OF THIS POSITION: JENNINGS, LOUISIANA

SUMMARY OF POSITION:
26% Directs and assists in providing care to patients such as ambulating, bathing, positioning, lifting and dressing. Instructs and trains subordinates in patient care techniques, serves as a lead worker over lower level subordinates.

21% Directs and assists in the feeding of patients. Monitor and documents eating patterns of patients.

10% Cleans rooms, makes and changes bed linens.

8% Inspect resident rooms, equipment, supplies and area cleanliness; reports deficiencies or maintenance problems.

8% Distributes clean linens, washes, dries, sorts, folds and stores patient's clothing. Perform general housekeeping tasks which include dry and wet mopping floors.

6% Cleans equipment such as whirlpool tub, weight scale, Hoyer lift, wheelchair weight scale, bed pan, sterilizer, and prosthetics.

6% Measures temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, height, weight, intake and output and records in patient's medical record.

5% Observes patient's condition and reports any changes to charge nurse.

5% Inventories patient belongings on admission, labels all items and documents on medical record.
Assists physicians and nurses with various examinations and treatments.
Escorts/transports patients to examinations, clinics, recreation sites, physical therapy and other areas as indicated.
Collects, labels and transports laboratory specimens as assigned.
Provide care to patients with infectious diseases, as needed

5% Perform specific treatments/procedures under directions of a professional nurse such as changing dressings and nasopharyngeal suctioning.
Changes bandages and reinforces sterile dressings under professional direction.
Assist professional staff in responding to emergency situations.
Inventories, orders, stocks and distributes supplies as needed.

Performs other related duties as required...

The position will be filled by a probation appointment or promotion of a permanent state employee.

SPECIAL ENTRANCE RATES:
NURSING ASSISTANT 1 - $11.89 PER HOUR
NURSING ASSISTANT 2- $12.72 PER HOUR

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Six months of experience or training in patient care.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
Graduation from an accredited registered or practical nursing program will substitute for all of the required experience.
Possession of a valid Certified Nursing Assistant certificate will substitute for all of the required experience.
Completion of a medical assistant training program will substitute for the required experience on a month for month basis.
Graduation from an accredited Emergency Medical Technician Program will substitute for all of the required experience.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:

Positions at facilities receiving certain Medicaid or Medicare funds require that applicants possess a valid Certified Nursing Assistant certificate as required by federal mandate implemented in 1987.

NOTE:
Any college hours or degree must be from a school accredited by one of the following regional accrediting bodies: the Middle States Commission on Higher Education; the New England Commission of Higher Education; the Higher Learning Commission; the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities; the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools; and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.

To perform routine sub professional nursing duties in the care and comfort of patients.

General from a Registered Nurse, Practical Nurse--Licensed, Nursing Assistant 2, or other higher level personnel.

Job Distinctions:
Differs from Nursing Assistant 2 by the absence of responsibility for more advanced duties and the absence of lead worker responsibilities.

Differs from Nursing Unit Aide by the presence of responsibility for performance of sub professional nursing duties.

Examples of Work
