Hourly Rate of Pay: $7.25 - $17.32 (Based on education and/or years of relevant work experience reflected on the application)
Work Schedule: 5:30 am - 5:30 pm with rotating weekends

This temporary position will be assigned to the Department of Public Safety Prisons Regional Office/Nash Correctional Institute.Position will participate in the delivery of the health services for the inmate population in accordance with the NC Nurse Practice Act and the DOP Health Service Policies/Procedures. Position will implement all aspects of the medication administration process including transcribing orders, ordering and storing medications and supplies, administering medication and treatment documentation of medication administration and treatment,observing and reporting to the RN anymedication effectiveness and side effects and reinforce patient education as given by the nurse and/or physician.

Administrative and clinical supervision will be provided by an RN. Position will also assist with clerical duties. Medication Technician must have certification and specific DPS training for medication administration and CPR.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions in exact detail in the administration of medications and treatment
  • Considerable knowledge of nursing methods and techniques in the care of patients
  • Considerable knowledge of dietetics, sanitation, and personal hygiene
  • Considerable knowledge of medical equipment and supplies used in a hospital, infirmary or clinic
  • Ability to carry out nursing care and treatment on patients
  • Ability to observe patients and to make written and verbal reports to physicians, nurses, and supervisors
  • Must have unrestricted NA II and medication certification to practice and listed on the NC Nurse Aide II and Medication registries?
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school or General Educational Development diploma and one year of related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Condition for Continued Employment As required: listing as a CURRENT Nurse Aide I by the North Carolina Division of Health Service Regulation AND a Nurse Aide II by the North Carolina Board of Nursing. As required by the Department of Public Safety, must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Counsel. As applicable, North Carolina Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification.
