POSITION DUTIES- The Department of State Aide will service customers by reviewing requests, eligibility, and application requirements; processing transactions; educating customers on services and alternative methods; and working with a sense of purpose, urgency, and accuracy for Michigan citizens.Review additional information about the position's responsibilities here: Position Description Dos Aide 6-E8
APPOINTMENT TYPE/BENEFITS-This position is Limited Term. Therefore, you would be eligible to participate in the benefits offered by the state.

WORK SCHEDULE -As aLimited Term position, the incumbent(s) will work a varied schedule of 40 hours per week, as well as possible overtime. Occasional travel maybe required for assignments at otherbranch offices. To be considered for these positions,please be advised that youmust be available to workany of the following days/hours during your appointment:

Western Division
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday: 8:30 a.m. - 6:00p.m.
Wednesday: 8:30 a.m. - 8:00p.m.
*Saturday: 8:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

*Note: Employees may be required to work overtime and on Saturday's, in accordance with contractual agreements.

This limited term appointment is predicted to end in6-9 months(approximate from start date). Please note that limited term appointments may endsooner or be extended later than the predicted date listed.

Required Education and Experience

Education
Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school.

Experience
6 Level- No specific type or amount is required.
7 Level- One year of experience equivalent to a Department of State Aide 6.
E8 Level- Two years of experience equivalent to a Department of State Aide, including one year equivalent to a Department State Aide 7.

Civil Service Commission Rule 2-7 requires that all newly hired state employees submit to and pass a pre-employment drug test prior to their actual appointment. Due to the nature of work of the Department of State, criminal and driving records will be checked. Any position offer will be conditional until results of the criminal background record checks indicate eligibility for employment.

CDLKTEX: Pursuant to the Commercial Motor Vehicle Safety Enhancement (CMVSE) Act and the requirements established by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), this designation requires a nationwide criminal history background check prior to position appointment. The employee, once appointed, is required to successfully complete a formal CDL training course, and knowledge test prior to certification as a CDL Knowledge Test Examiner. Additionally, the incumbent will be required to pass refresher training and examination every four years.

SECCHDPOS: Position requires incumbent to be a United States Citizen and pass a thorough background investigation to comply with Public Act 7 of 2008, Public Act 23 of 2008, and the Memorandum of Agreement between the State of Michigan and the Department of Homeland Security. Position also requires incumbent possess and maintain a valid driver's license, in accordance with agency's driving record standards.

Leave Time

Full time employees receive between 15 and 35 vacation leave days per year. Employees also receive 13 sick days per year, and employees receive 8 hours of leave to participate in certain school functions or community activities. Employees may also qualify for up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave for certain family or medical situations.

Holidays

State employees receive 12 scheduled holidays each year, which include New Years Eve Day and New Years Day, Christmas Eve Day and Christmas Day, Memorial Day, and Veterans Day just to name a few.

Flexible work schedules and telecommuting options are available in many jobs.

Insurance and Other Benefits

Insurances include health, vision, dental and life. Employees also have the option to purchase additional life, accidental death, long term disability, long term care insurance, and legal services. Flexible spending accounts for medical expenses and child care are also available.

Deferred Compensation

Employees may invest income in a tax-deferred retirement investment program. The state offers two optional deferred compensation plans, the 457 and 401(k). Employees decide the amount you want deducted from your paycheck.

Retirement

Employees receive a minimum 4% state contribution toward their retirement fund. If an employee elects to contribute more, the state will match that percentage (up to 3%). ORS administers two different retirement plans for State of Michigan employees: a Defined Benefit (DB) plan and a Defined Contribution (DC) plan. Use thefollowing link for detailed information:
