<div id="job-source-10" class="job-source-10"> <div id="details-info" class="tab-pane active"> <dl><dt>Job Description</dt> <dd><p/><div style="text-align: center;"><img style="width: 175.0px;height: 203.0px;" alt="" src="https://secure.neogov.com/images/AgencyImages/jobposting/2704/jobpostings/image/akdoc_seal_color_sm.jpg"/><br/></div><div style="text-align: center;"><strong>The Department of Corrections, Division of Institutions, is recruiting for a Criminal Justice Technician I position located in Mackenzie Point, Alaska.</strong><br/><strong>Goose Creek Correctional Center</strong><br/><p><strong>Do you enjoy working in a busy, fast-paced environment?</strong></p><p><strong>Do you want to work in an environment where your people skills, organizational skills and attention to detail will be highly valued?</strong></p><p><strong>Are you able to communicate effectively with others, both verbally and in writing?</strong></p><p><strong>Are you able to work independently and in a team?</strong></p><p><strong>If you answered "yes" to these questions, then this may be the perfect job match for you!</strong><br/><br/></p></div><div><div style="text-align: left;">Under the general direction of your supervisor, this position is one of two positions responsible for supervising the Job Service/Commissary Programsat Goose Creek Correctional Center.<br/><br/><strong>The key responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:</strong></div><ul><li style="text-align: left;">Create, maintain and track all approved inmate jobs including gratuity scales and weekly hours assigned to each position;</li><li style="text-align: left;">Maintain Job Descriptions and ensure open positions are posted;</li><li style="text-align: left;">Interview inmates and match their qualifications to open institutional positions;</li><li style="text-align: left;">Recommend inmates for educational employment classes such as culinary arts or maintenance courses;</li><li style="text-align: left;">Directly supervise inmate workers for the institutional barber shop, landscaping, commissary and sweat lodge;</li><li style="text-align: left;">Review all inmate timesheets for accuracy and perform backup duties for processing inmate gratuity payments into prisoner accounts;</li><li style="text-align: left;">Supervise an inmate crew in collecting, processing and distributing commissary purchases for the inmate population; and</li><li style="text-align: left;">Work history that supports your ability to produce consistent, high quality, work in an environment where there can be numerous interruptions throughout the day.</li></ul></div></dd> <dt>Minimum Qualifications</dt> <dd><p>Graduation from high school or the equivalent.<br/>AND<br/>One year of advanced clerical experience.<br/>OR<br/>One year of law enforcement or criminal justice experience equivalent to Correctional Officer I, Adult Probation Officer I, Court Services Officer, Juvenile Probation Officer I, Juvenile Justice Officer I, or State Trooper Recruit with the State of Alaska.<br/><br/>SUBSTITUTION:<br/>Post-secondary education will substitute for the experience on a month-for-month basis (3 semester hours or 4 quarter hours equal one month of experience).<br/><br/><strong>Special Note:</strong><br/>High school graduation "equivalent" includes a G.E.D., or completion of any basic adult education course of 480 class hours (16 weeks at 30 hours per week), or six months of work experience performing duties related to the job class, or twelve months of work experience involving some routine tasks related to the job in question, or highest grade of school completed plus amount of work experience which totals 12 years.</p></dd> <dt>Additional Required Information</dt> <dd><p/><p><u><strong>PRACTICAL EXERCISE</strong></u><br/>The application process for this recruitment is a staged process which includes a practical exercise, an interview panel, and a detailed review of all requested information in this posting. Applicants who do not successfully pass the practical exercise phase will not advance to the interview panel phase. Applicants who are not able to travel to the facility must make arrangements to have the written practical exercise administered by a Department of Corrections approved proctor (The Department of Corrections will not pay to fly an applicant to a location where the practical exercise can be proctored).</p><br/><strong><u>REQUIRED DOCUMENTS</u></strong><br/>Applicants are required to either attach to their application or provide at time of interview the following:<ul><li>List of three professional references (at time of interview); and</li><li>Last three performance evaluations (at time of interview).</li></ul><br/><strong><u>PREA NOTIFICATION</u></strong><br/>The Department of Corrections follows and maintains federal and state requirements standards including, but not limited to, Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) standards which apply to all public and private institutions that house adult or juvenile offenders. PREA standards preclude the department from hiring or promoting anyone who has engaged in, or been convicted of any conduct which would violate PREA standards related to sexual assault including:<ul><li>Sexual abuse in a prison, jail, lockup, community confinement facility, juvenile facility, or other institution;</li><li>Convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse; or</li><li>Has been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in the activity described above.</li></ul><br/><strong><u>EDUCATION </u></strong><br/>If post-secondary education is required to meet the minimum qualifications, you must fill in the Education section of the application. If you have not obtained a degree, please indicate the number of units completed. Copies of transcripts are required to verify educational credentials if used to meet the minimum qualifications for a position. Transcripts can be attached at the time of application or provided at the time of interview, at the discretion of the hiring manager.<br/><br/><u><strong>SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR FOREIGN EDUCATION </strong></u><br/>Education completed in foreign colleges, universities, or high schools may be used to meet the minimum qualifications listed above. If utilizing this education, you must show that the education credentials have been submitted to a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign educational credentials and that such education has been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education programs; or an accredited U.S. post-secondary institution reports the other institution as one whose transcript is given full value, or full value is given in subject areas applicable to the curricula at the post-secondary institution or high school.
